Roller Derby
What is Roller Derby?

A bout is what a Roller Derby game is called.  A bout is divided into two 30-minute periods.  Each 30-minute period is made up of a series of "jams".  Each "jam" can last up to 2 minutes depending on if the jam gets called off early or not (more on that in a bit).

Each team will have a Pivot (striped helmet), 3 blockers, and a jammer (star helmet) on the track for each jam.  The goal is for the jammer to score points by passing opposing skaters.

The purpose of the blockers is to stop the opposing jammer from getting through the "pack" and also to help their own jammer get through the pack.  One blocker is designated as Pivot and is repsonsible for setting the pace of the "pack".

The first time a jammer passes through the pack, no points are awarded.  The first jammer to get through the pack is called the "lead" jammer.  The lead jammer can call off the "jam" at anytime.  This can stop the other team from racking up points.

The team with the most points WINS!
